I've been setting up the Exact Audio Copy (freeware), EAC, MP3 encoding software on my 100, and ran into having problems with these ASPI Layer files for MS Windows OSs.

There's a like here to download an Adaptec test utility that determines if your system's ASPI layer files are correct, wrong, or corrupted.

When I ran it on my 100, it reported 2 incorrect files. So I downloaded the Adaptec ASPI Layer version (4.60.1019) update from the link on the above web page:

After installing the files, the Adaptec test utility confirmed that all the files properly supported ASPI. But for some reason, the utility was reporting Windows 95 files. I tracked down a Windows 98 ASPI update, but then test utility reported problems again.

The ASPI software that controls the communication between CD-ROM drives and Windows programs. And since installing the new files, my HP M820E seems to grind in ways it hadn't before. This is reminiscent of some of the CD-ROM audio extraction software I tested last year.

Has anyone had any experience with these ASPI files?
