It is a 100CT with 64MB RAM, no modifications as far as I know. I

1. The current OS is Win 98. I would like to do a clean install of Win
XP. Will Win XP work satisfactorily on this machine?

People on the list have gotten XP to run successfully on the 100CT after overclocking it. The 166MHz CPU is not sufficient. You >do< have the 32MB RAM upgrade which is required for it to run reasonably well. From what people have reported, XP boots a bit slowly, but will run well after that.

In fact, Im right on the edge of setting up XP in my 100CT. I havent yet checked the archives (http://www.technoir.nu/libretto/list/ and http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/) to see whether XP runs well after overclocking to 233MHz. The process is a bit more complicated than overclocking to 266MHz. The latter can be done easily with a conductive pen ($15 - $20 at local electronic shops) by merely connecting two adjacent solder points. Im just a bit concerned about the heat that might be created at 266 during the hot Florida summers.

Also, most systems seem to accept the overclocking, but a few here and there have had problems. For the procedure, see Dr. Xins website at: http://www.fixup.net/tips/l100266.htm

Good luck!

Matt
