Says on the back of the card that it's 16-bit and 5V. Doesn't seem too hot when it comes out, either. Netgear specs confirm the 5V:

It's the fact that it *does* work for a little while until freezing - AND on both W98 and linux - that bugs me. A software or driver issue with one or the other OS is solvable. But some kind of basic hardware incompatibility is very annoying.

Some 802.11b wireless card actually requires 3.3v from PCMCIA slot! Most Laptops with CardBus slots can support that. But L50 is 16-bit PCMCIA only. It can only supply 5v or 12v. If the card get 5v instead of 3.3v, it will overheat quickly and quite working. It seems your Netgear card is one of them.
