Flash isn't that bad, these days. The prices and chip sizes have been
improving dramatically in the last couple years. For instance, a 4gb
compactflash card is now around $200:

 CF to IDE adapters are available on Ebay for less than $20. However, an
even better solution would be to bootstrap your Libby from the IDE drive,
then run the primary OS off of a CF card in the cardbus slot. In that way
you could get 2.5x the read speed (10MB/s for a CF card vs 4MB/s for the
maxed out ISA IDE controller).
