Isn't it easy to get round a BIOS password by resetting the BIOS / Removing the BIOS battery? Flashing the BIOS would also reset all BIOS settings. I can't think of any partical way to make the hardware unusable once stolen. Get your insurrance company to pay for a new > one. Here in Brazil, no insurrance company deals with laptops. If any deals, it'll cost too much because having a laptop stolen here is a common fact..
