Vincent addressed the PR issue. that was the first thing on my mind. We could have a single place that could be the "lightning rod". it would also allow us to address legitimate concerns and moderate out the trolls and pests.

John: I agree with you about the bugs and patches issue. I'll check the forum software over  (PHPBB) and see if there's a way to set up something like "e-mail me on any post in this forum". Interestingly enough, though, I was just thinking that the nice thing about a forum is that it's *not* filling my Inbox with projects that are irrelevant to what I'm working on.

My thinking was something like this: we start threads for specific issues, programs, or patches. If someone who's working on Animation, for example, subscribes to the animation thread, he doesn't have to read about IM's and Chat. So far, all of my programming classes at NU have had group projects, and we've had much better luck coordinating through forums than we did with e-mail. We created a thread for each of our team assignments, and it worked VERY well.

Mailing lists, for some reason, don't feel as "accessible" as forums. Maybe it's the fact that it's harder to read an archive and respond to specific issues, or maybe it's because I *have* to see every post that comes across the pipe. One thing I'm hoping (as I'm sure we all are) is that libSL is long-term a success. If it is, there will soon be too much mail for one list anyway.

I've built the forum (it coincided with my need for a forum for  my next class), and it's at http://www.compiledreality.com/forum . (note the i in reality - i'm dealing with VR, not with real estate)

I'd like to set John, Jesse, and Sam up as moderators... is there anybody else who's a "shaker and mover" that ought to be there? If you just sign up with the e-mail addresses you're using on the list here, I'll make sure that you're set properly. If, for some reason, you decide you don't like the forum format, or if you want to move the forum to your own server later, I can easily give you a backup of the forum database.
