Rebooting is necessary for the "add user to group" change to take
effect. It should be possible to just restart X if you're in X,
however, I've found with recent Ubuntu distros that this is not
sufficient. Of course going to runlevel 1 or whatever it is and back
is probably sufficient but rebooting is preferred over fiddling with
run level IMO.
