Yes I agree that most of those Windows 8/RT built-in apps are really simplistic
and not really that useful. The store is also a bit limited if compared to
Apple iOS and Google Android, but it seems to be much better than
Apple Mac app store which is really very limited.

Firstly Windows RT does support desktop mode for sanctioned applications
(like its own Office for Windows RT). So it is not only blocky apps.

Secondly usually by Windows 8 it means the Windows 8 for x86/x64,
so you have access to the desktop applications you are using under
Windows 7. It lacks a start button but you can install 3rd party
software (eg: Classic Shell, which is open source) and then
it works just like Windows 7.

So consumers will still go and buy Windows 8 machines since that is
what they will get (okay, still a few Windows 7 machines now, but soon
it will mostly be Windows 8).

That being said, I like Mac as well since my main machine at home is
a Mac Mini 2011 and I run many virtual machines on top of OS X
(after upgrading the memory from the unusable 2GB to 8GB). Mac
Mini 2012 is even better with USB 3.0. So maybe my next machine
will be another Mac (eg: Mini or iMac).
