If you want to be considerate of the binary size, here's a q: what
compresses to near 100% efficiency:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Or:
Abcfefghijklnghajabhffgcggcffbhh
? -sc

Do we want to distribute the benchmark scripts, or are they intended

Yeah, I debated about. Since I blogged about them, I figured I'd
include them. Otherwise no one would ever see them.
Not sure what the intention was, but let'em go out. What's the
worst that could happen? People figure out that REXML is slow? -sc
The downside is the extra bytes (for the test xml files) and making
sure they actually work. And also whether including them is
appropriate (I sent emails to the authors, should also add
attribution at the top of each one).
I'm fine either way. I figure they'll get removed sooner or later
though.
And while on the subject, where are the benchmarks on the home page
from? In fact, maybe we just have links to a benchmark page from
there and take them out of the distribution?
