You say you're using objprelink - prevailing wisdom on kde-devel is that if 
something is broken, objprelink is the first thing you should disable.  

It seems to be becoming depreciated as people move towards using newer gcc's, 
so I would not be surprised if its use became a growing source of problems.

My kernel/KDE/Qt combination is the same as yours, I've been compiling licq 
snapshots and CVS (using the KDE_MALLOC=0 workaround) to go with all KDE 3 
versions up to HEAD and I've not seen the problems you describe, I'd suggest 
you try KDE without objprelinking.
