XIM are the X Input Methods, it's about inputting foreign characters (like 
Japanese, Chinese and the like). And --noxim obviously disables this 
functionality.

But I must say that the KDE plugin still runs very unstable, it crashes every 
now and then (with or without KDE_MALLOC). The Qt plugin seems stable, 
though.
