Yeah, I was thinking of that, but in the end I decided to make it 
customisable, so you can pick whichever LED you want via a config file, and 
you can adjust it on a per-user basis (so for example, all users activate the 
scroll lock LED, but user xyz activates caps lock instead.)

Why laptop users?  I know myself that Scroll Lock appears to be used for 
mousekeys, and so when the scroll lock LED is on the numpad moves the mouse 
cursor around instead, but that was fixed by changing the keyboard layout to 
remove mousekeys.  But I imagine yes, if say caps lock was used, whenever you 
got a message you'd start typing in capitals...something to keep in mind.  
But either way, X11 only allows programs to use the scroll lock LED by 
default (if you run "xset led on" it turns on all 32 LEDs you have access to, 
which for me is only scroll lock.)
