Disabling the icon would work for me; though ideally there would be an option for enabling the icon if it's not in the gui as well, but I can live with just one or the other. It's important that the disabling musn't write to the configuration file.
This isn't a critical issue, obviously, so I wouldn't want you to have to create a big hack that makes the code impossible to maintain. But I thought I'd ask and see if it's possible.
