I think we're heading there, at last.

The LANG=$LC_CTYPE setting does not make a difference. However, now the
alias in contact list does not get garbled (not even after restarting
licq and relogging on).

In other places (User Info dialog, tab title in the chat window), the
aliases are wrong (after licq restart) -- exactly as you stated in
another email.

I suppose this is it...?
