I am running licq 1.2.0a under RH8.0/Linux 2.4.20.
Licq launches ok and even *appears* to go online (blue 'online' lights
up), but I am unable to send or receive messages. A look at the log
confirms that I am not really online (even though the blue 'online'
status continues to show up on the console).
log shows the following messages:

Turning off my iptables firewall doesn't resolve the problem.
Interestingly, I don't have any problems connecting to ICQ on my old
RH7.3 machine running licq 1.1.0 which sits on the same LAN behind a
linksys router. (Note: I use the same UIN and essentially the same
config file)
Thus, I would guess that it doesn't seem to be a UIN, configuration, network access or
firewall problem...
One other perhaps relevant point is that when I launch licq I
*sometimes* (but not always) get one of the following 2 error messages:
1. Session management error: Could not open network socket
2. Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 2449
(gtk_widget_size_allocate): assertion `widget != NULL' failed.
(However, licq *always* fails to work regardless of the error message)
Any suggestions on what might be going on here???
