Another solution, a little more costly though, is to buy a SoundBlaster
Live! soundcard, since these can manage multiple sound sources at the
same time, using the standard Linux driver. 
I have an old Live! Value, and it works like a charm, nothing ever hangs
anymore because of the soundcard being busy.
