Tim, Quite likely he is effectively on *latest* 1.1-SNAPSHOT as he used - DarchetypeVersion=1.1-SNAPSHOT during archetype:create.
Would look forward to the archetype refactoring. Meanwhile, I have created an issue summarizing the observations in http://github.com/dpp/liftweb/issues/#issue/52.
