I am finally able to use the plugin. I noticed the plugin version is 2.7.7 and that the lift project scala version was 2.7.3 so I changed the scala version to 2.7.7
It works now. Actually I am not sure this was the change that made it work because just before I restarted eclipse and it already seemed to work.
