The "is a bunch of copy&pasteable scripts" note sounds good. Notes are in 12.6 Building an Ubuntu distro, which confusingly contains the text "lilybuntu" (old name) instead of "lilydev".
I'm not certain that it's up-to-date, though. But adding a quick @ref{Environment vars} to that would be awesome. Maybe also dump a link to http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1964 so that the next person working on lilydev can see the things which cropped up last time.
