More context can be found in the thread http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-lilypond/2012-10/msg00158.html --- I probably should have shouted louder when Eluze reported the problem and I then noticed that the GUB fix (issue 1455) would also affect stable releases unless action was taken to prevent that. One can revert the GUB fix (or think of a better fix) or apply issue 2944 to the stable branch and release 2.16.2 (was there really no plan to have such a release?). In case 2.18 is around the corner, one might even not bother releasing 2.16.2 at all.
