Doesn't this patch depend on issue 3330? It would appear to me that issue
3330 would independently fix the problem, but that the simplification in
this patch should still work. At any rate, it would seem prudent to test
this patch in concordance with that of issue 3330 since the latter fixes a
bunch of other problems as well and so likely should go in. While testing
with the current status of 3330 would at least be informative, any definite
testing should be done after 3330 has been committed.
