Regarding comment #20: totally evades me. Can't reproduce either outside
or inside of LilyPond, would need a reliable and usefully simple recipe. I
don't see anything obvious inside of GUILE's implementation of fold that
could produce this kind of symptom. It's unlikely that it occurs outside
of LilyPond.
