There is one thing that I suppose LiyDev is good for is when we get into situations where we require a version of a command that doesn't come in the normal distribution - astyle, fontforge, gcc even.

For the more advanced dev this normally isn't a problem, but for those that aren't comfortable downloading and compiling 'newer' versions of not-yet-upstreamed code or those that simply don't have time or don't want to mess with their own base OS (for whatever reason - it is actually why I use LilyDev in a VM) then this could be a strong reason.
