Current behaviour of spacing springs is wrong and confusing. Changing
min_distance of a spring should generally not affect its ideal distance.
The patch for issue 2462 (commit ab6842155a003ba7d9243507594e3e973ebbb3e4)
fixed part of this issue, but the spring code needs more thorough changes
(in particular, merge_springs should not set merged spring's distance to
max (min_distance + 0.3, avg_distance))
