Apologies, I was too hasty and careless in marking this invalid. It does
indeed seem that the direction of the stem (for notes with a duration that
normally requires a stem) continues to affect the slur even when its
stencil is #f or its length is zero. Presumably the code-writer did not
consider the possibility that people might want to suppress the printing of
stems.
