Your view that a patch is needed is shared by comment #33 and issue 4406
which is marked as owned by Trevor but only as "Accepted" rather
than "Started".
I think that in the light of this having a separately numbered issue, it
should be ok to mark this one as "Verified".
It might make sense checking back with Trevor whether he has already
invested any work in issue 4406 before doing so yourself.
