The new whiteout Grob property takes a number that tells the thickness of
the white border, in units line-thicknesses. The old whiteout does not
respond to any such thickness request, though it would be more useful if it
did.
So accepting \override Staff.Grob.whiteout = #3 or ##t, with interpretation
based on whiteout-style would seem to work long-term.
