In LilyPond, engraving and tuning are tied together, but it can only handle ETs, and only multiples of 12 without a special file regular.ly. So I think, Adam Good settled for E72, which gives neutral seconds of about the same size as in E53, only that the major and minor seconds are in E12. The original makam.ly file is flawed, as it divides the double sharp into 9 parts, whereas it should have divided the sharp into 5 parts for proper E53: The sharps and major seconds are on different generators, and only the accidentals can be divided. This causes it to not transpose properly. Adam has fixed that in the new file.
