How to install multiple versions so that each finds only its own files?

Only Windows 98 has been mentioned.  Is XP OK?

The cygwin version works well along with the native one, but 
double-clicking will call the native.
However, if you use jEdit for example, and the latest development 
version (0.8.2-3) of the LilyPondTool plugin 
(www.sf.net/projects/lily4jedit), you can choose which version to run.
