LilyPond does in fact create kneed-beams with semiquavers, if the "gap" is
large enough. The documentation states: "A kneed beam is drawn if the gap
is larger than the value of auto-knee-gap plus the width of the beam object
(which depends on the duration of the notes and the slope of the beam)."

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.24/Documentation/notation/beams

(Scroll down to Changing Beam Knee Gap.)

You can control the slope of the beam manually using beam positions. I
don't know of an automatic way of doing this:

%%% Start
\version "2.24.4"
\relative c'{
  \once \override Beam.positions = #'(1 . 0)
  a16[ e''' d c]
}
%%% End
