I've felt there's a balance to be struck between beam angles that follow the music and avoiding small white spaces that can get filled with ink in a bad printer! ly's beam slants have always been a little too steep for me. setting damping to 2 gets basically ideal results imo, but the little wedges are ever inescapable. you can see them in the examples werner sent, and you can see them in the piece I typeset literally just last week, the piece that started this whole discussion (Le Carnaval de Venise by Ernest Depas): [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] it's such a cute charming little piece :) on the other end you have philosophies like aleksa's that choose to avoid the wedges at all costs I'm not well-read enough to say if one's better than the other. personally I'm satisfied with my gentle slopes and little wedges :)
have a good day folks! luise
