Well, of course, it’s quite common in modern scores.

One [beautiful!] example that immediately came to mind is Schwantner’s 
“Sparrows”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqBkFWCkaTk Ironically, about a 
decade ago, I wanted to re-engrave this score for an ensemble conducted by a 
colleague, but found that the indentations/cutaways required too much work in 
Lilypond. LOL
