As a Lilypond newbie in what direction should I be looking to be able to create documentation including Lilypond's pdf output. Inserting the *.pdfs into Libre Office in Fedora seems to be a dead end, at least directly.
Scribus (from version 1.3.5 onwards) has the ability to put Lilypond code in render frames and have it rendered by Lilypond when exporting the document to PDF. See http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Help:Manual_Renderframes#Lilypond.
Lyx also integrates with lilypond-book. If you install Lyx, there's a sample document lilypond.lyx demonstrating this in /usr/share/lyx/examples (on Linux) or "c:\program files (x86)\lyx 2.0\resources\examples" (on Windows).
