Most of these changes should be done in the live-build hierarchy of files. After oneiric, the live-build config files can (and do) work pretty much without using any seeds.
The "why" might be worth a revisit/review but this is probably not the forum for it. I'm going to leave this a comment instead of a disapprove since really it's entirely up to dev platforms how they want to proceed.
