We can cut another release, but the sooner this gets tested the better. You are requesting the change so the onus is on you to check that it works and to do basic testing that it doesn't break other things.
It is possible to make it vary depending on whether it is an Android target or not. You didn't provide any rationale to know why this change is being made, and whether it applies to Ubuntu as well.
