I was rather vague in my prior post about the Linux Art Distribution. To clarify, I plan on using an existing release as a base for the distribution, I just plan on filtering out some of the esoterica, and adding the various art applications to the distribution. I plan on adding them in groups, such as raster art, vector art, 3d, etc... so that the user can install just the ones they want, and I'd like to get it so that the rc files from the various windows managers include the applications already on the menu, but only the ones the user chose to install. I'd also like to in the long run, make it easier to use, but one step at a time. One suggestion from someone is to make a usable help system. The man pages are rather dense reading. KDE has an interesting help system, based on html. Perhaps we could use something like that, or even it. Also, further down the road, I'm hoping these various linux tutorial and overview books will come to fruition. One of the reasons I'm making up this distribution, is to have something to include with the books, that is better suited for the topics covered. On a slightly different note, does anybody know if there is a single X server/mode that will run on any graphics card/monitor combination, without damaging the hardware? (Think X based graphical install ;) ) And on a fun note, we'll need a cool name and logo for the distribution. Everybody brainstorm, and come up with a few ideas. Hold off on letting me know for now, I may set up a formal contest once I get a web presence up for this project. ;) Jason Jackson [EMAIL PROTECTED]
