Jason, et. al.:
I think this has the makings of a great idea. I'd like to volunteer the online
services of the North Texas Linux Users Group (http://www.ntlug.org/) to help
out with this if it gets that far: mailing list, ftp site, web space, etc.
I think you could do pretty good by basing it on either Red Hat or Debian--to
get the maximum ease-of-use from their package management--and then just
customizing the out-of-box packages toward creative things: graphics, massive
TeX stuff, music, etc. Basically all the things we've been talking about on
this list. Perhaps include Enlightenment WM when it gets more stable or even
KDE, I've heard it's advancing rapidly.
You could shoot for this as a 1.0 release; later on you could move toward one
of the 'make linux simpler' projects going on.
Just some thoughts.
Best,
Kendall G. Clark, President
NTLUG
