One previous poster has partly pointed out that the IJG jpeg source
which provides cjpeg and djpeg also has the programs rdjpgcom and
wrjpgcom for reading and writing jpeg file comment blocks.  Should be
possible to script these easily.

I guess these programs probably come with your linux distro.
