Yeah, the numbers on the bottom of plastic containers are irrelevant nowadays. This state Recyclopedia is a great resource for figuring out what specific things are recyclable and what aren't (and if you enter "back plastic" they even explain why you can't recycle it):

The question I now have is: where does our recycled plastic go after it's sorted from the other materials by Wheelabrator in North Andover since China shut the door a few years ago? And would it make more sense to just give up and incinerate plastic from the get-go? Chemicals from combustion vs. plastic in landfills or the oceans for decades... which is worse? How much of the toxic chemicals from burning plastic can incinerators "scrub" from their emissions?
