What a shame. The Lincoln fireworks were such a wonderful event, one that the
whole family looked forward to attending.

Subject: Re: [LincolnTalk] 4th of July - Fireworks

After reading the minutes of the Parks and Rec Committee available on the town
website: Renewing the Fireworks show has ben discussed (see minutes here
(https://www.lincolntown.org/agendacenter/viewfile/minutes/_10232023-5280),
here
(https://www.lincolntown.org/agendacenter/parks-and-recreation-committee-27/#09182023-5226),
 and here
(https://www.lincolntown.org/agendacenter/parks-and-recreation-committee-27/#10232023-5280))
and it was determined by the committee that the cost of doing a fireworks show
on the 4th of July was currently prohibitive. Consolidation in the industry,
the requirement for a multi-year contract, and the reduction of the
celebrations budget during the school building project were all given as
influences in the decision as well as concerns about noise and fire. Doing a
show at another time of year was also discussed and while the cost goes down
significantly if you do a show at another time other than the 4th, there was no
consensus on when or if the town would want a fireworks show on a different
date.
I hear there used to be a Celebrations Committee that helped organize this,
however that Committee no longer exists.

If anyone would like to know more and/or lobby for or against having a
fireworks display run by Parks and Rec, please attend the next Parks and Rec
Committee Meeting on Monday, September 15th.

FYI, the cost of a drone show is about 5-10 times more than doing a traditional
fireworks show. (Source:

Regarding 4th of July Fireworks...
As a former Parks and Rec commissioner, I can say - during the school building
project, we couldn't have fireworks because the campus was too busy with
temporary learning pods and building materials. That was during my time on the
PRC.

Having rolled off that board, I can only assume that last year would have been
the first year they were possible, and we were in drought - several towns
either never scheduled or cancelled fireworks due to extreme fire danger. Since
these have to be planned almost a year in advance, and we were still in drought
until about a month ago, perhaps that's why we don't have any this year?

Any current PRCs want to chime in and correct me?

Yours,
Margit
