We've had Verizon FIOS for years (in North Lincoln where cell tower signals are
still very iffy), and once cellphones were able to use wifi for service as an
alternative to cell towers, we developed enough confidence in call/texting
reliability we disconnected our landline. Just make sure your phone has "wifi
calling" toggled on!...Dan

[LincolnTalk] Internet & Cell phone service and town coverage Past decisions
were made with the best information, at the time.In addition, the town was
looking to locate towers so that the town-all taxpayers-would benefit from
revenues as opposed to a few private individuals.Image that without any effort
to manage, towers go up all over town including your abutters backyard…not a
pretty picture. Many areas around us are famous for spotty coverage-Concord,
parts of 117 in Weston and Waltham…..As for good service on Conant Rd. near the
Weston line, Verizon Fiber Optic has been fantastic for us.We also maintain a
landline for safety reasons, and use AT&T for (excellent) cell coverage.Good
luck to all on the hunt!> On Aug 1, 2025, at 8:01 PM, Donald seckler via

was still relatively new, cell towers were believed, by some, to threaten
public health. Despite a federal law requiring permitting, Lincoln paid town
lawyers many thousands of dollars to conduct a fruitless battle to halt the
process. All that came of the battle was the creation of “cellular overlay
districts,” where some towers, of limited height, could be sited. Consequently,
cellular providers built only a few, low towers. People who live in areas near
or within line of sight from those towers, now have good cell service. Others
were condemned to poor service, and have had to pay for land lines or otherwise
cope with poor service, an indirect tax on hundreds of households. Now, I
think, tower opponents use their cellphones without much concern, but the town
paid, and many of us continue to pay, for the mistakes of the past.> > Thanks.>

EarthLink services Lincoln.  If you use EarthLink (or any other Internet

is conduit waiting for either cable or fiber, so we're looking for a quality
provider that also has excellent (we'd even settle for decent) customer
