From Jeff Eaton, a friend who has lived in Lincoln decades more than I have: “There was quite a wide speed bump on Lincoln Road, roughly half way between (1) the junction of Peirce Hill Road and Lincoln Road and (2) the junction of Ballfield Road and Lincoln Road. My understanding is that it was taken out because fire trucks were tempted to drive too fast on the straight-away, thus damaging the fire trucks and their contents as they jounced over the bump."
