Markus,

The line6 module is included with Mint. I reverted to that version (deleted the 
compiled version I was using previously), and it does output to dmesg as 
follows:

[  118.281846] line6usb: module is from the staging directory, the quality is 
unknown, you have been warned.
[  118.284168] line6usb driver version 0.9.1beta (revision 690)
[  118.284237] usbcore: registered new interface driver line6usb

Still, nothing to be found in /proc/asound. Also, the module was *not* 
automatically inserted on reboot, and instead required a manual activation.

I'll fiddle with it some more and see where it goes.
