Been awhile since I opened Flash...is that what autoscale does?
Essentially the Flash xtra in Director can be told to scale the Flash movie to whatever dimensions the sprite is stretched to. Since the scaling is vector in nature, it allows it to be essentially resolution independent. You wouldn't need to reassign the locations of individual elements, and the look would be smooth and clean if developed properly.
