>I have see technote: QuickTime video (Sorenson) drops sound in Director MX
>2004(http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19266)
This issue is not DMX 2K4 or SV3 specific -- I reported it in the D8 timeframe
(and may have seen it earlier), and the issue can occur with SV2, as well.
In fact, I flew out to San Francisco to demo this issue to an engineer at
Macromedia, because it almost cost us a client. (Less dramatically, I had lots
of other stuff to do on that trip, but scheduled it around her availability...)

You can use it, as long as the following applies:
o You're not using SV3 Pro with B-frames (causes crashes)
o You have the members QUICKTIME preload property set to FALSE
(This is different than the member.preload property in
Director) (causes crashes)
o You're not using pure white as the background color to
matte the video into the background. (SV 2 & 3 can cause
color shifts, so the white can go light gray or yellowish.
This color shift is dependent on video drivers.)
o You're willing to put in extra QA effort, on a pretty wide
variety of machines. There are some other Director/SV3 quirks
I'm not remembering right now, and they will bite you.
One question: Why are you still using D8? Even 8.5 is a better product (and the
sound issue is WORSE in D8 than D8.5), but apart from the wretched MX
interface, Director MX 2004 is the version you should be using -- LOTS of
important bug fixes and new features.
I did a review of DMX 2K4 for DOUG, which is here:

>And, at the same time, how many of you are using flash video in real project?
We are. The quality is nowhere near Quicktime's, but "video without plugins" is
pretty compelling to many of our clients.
Hope this helps.
