Hello,

Hope everyone is still out there...just got my Macromedia/Adobe merge
letter.

To my question: I am importing text files created in notepad on Windows. I'm
using the readFile command with an instance of the FileIO Xtra in 8.5 to
read the contents of the files. When I place the imported text in a field on
the stage, the paragraph characters are showing up as boxes. I've tried
changing fonts and some other simple formatting but they don't go away. The
paragraph breaks act the way that they should (text moves down, blank lines
are left) but I don't want those characters to be visible.

Aside from reading out the text around those characters and writing it back
into another field, is there any way to suppress the boxes? My text is ANSI
with no special formatting or encoding. I'm putting it into an uneditable
field. The reason for this arrangement is to allow updating of product
descriptions in the future. We change the text files on a saleperson's
machine and they have the new specs or descriptions read into the old front
end. If anybody has alternative ideas to accomplish this same end, I'm
always ready to listen.

Thanks,

Al
