I want to get a kind of unique ID from the mac my app is installed on so

Some check machine IDs, others keep hidden files. Director, for instance,
keeps a hidden file on the PC (and probably the Mac, but I don't have a Mac
available this instant to check), which normally doesn't get copied over, so if
it's missing then Director assumes you need to put your serial number in again.
That might be an alternative for you.
If I was at my Mac I could look up some other decent sort of info, but I can't
right this moment. Some other techniques are to query various little,
not-so-special-by-themselves bits of information and build a profile that
identifies a machine as unique. I think an invisible file might be easier.
In general, you can, with enough effort, protect anything against anybody,
temporarily. The tradeoff is up to you.
Great List!
Hope it helps :)
