I'm after some advice and pointers on how to best achieve running Director
projects over a network.
Currently a lot of training programs that I've developed have been
distributed on CD-ROM, but the client is now making noises about serving
them across their intranet instead.
At their core, these programs are nothing more complicated than
click-button-play-MPEG and the occassional number-crunching widget, although
our QTVR risk assessment simulations I think are now a standard feature too.
The only communication-type activity are two web links to feedback and
version check systems handled by an ASP application (hence outside of
Director).
At this stage I don't envisage a large number of simultaneous users (I've
been quoted around 10 at a time) but I know that the client has grossy
underestimated this figure, or very shortly will want to run hundreds or
even thousands of simultaneous users.
Therefore I sincerely doubt that simply copying the contents of an existing
CD to a network location and accessing the projector over the LAN is going
to be a suitable solution.
At this stage I'm not sure I have the time to rebuild everything for
Shcokwave delivery (and even then I'm not too familiar with the
loads/stresses/requirements I'll need to consider for the MPEG video), but
obviously if it's going to be a big job then I will explain this to my
client.
Where do I look? How do I approach this new delivery medium? What do I do?
