Hi all --
I'm currently updating an old project to MX2004. It's working great in
Win 2000 and XP, but tends to crash with dirapi.dll errors in Win98.
Has anyone else run into similar problems running MX2004 projectors on
Win98, and did you determine any particular lingo code or Xtras that
tended to bring them on? This project uses fileXtra, Buddy API, and
Sharp Export in addition to the MACR-supplied Xtras.
More details below, but mainly I'd like to hear from anyone out there
who struggled with Win98 and found specific areas of incompatibility.
cheers,
jamie

My intuitive sense is that it might have something to do with file
access through one of the Xtras, but the errors happen at random times
and never seem to happen when I put in tracing code to try to catch
them. Perhaps because the extra time required to run the trace code
gives Win98 a chance to catch its breath between commands?
Some errors seemed to occur most regularly when opening a dialog MIAW.
Not consistently, though, and moreover the errors would disappear when
the projector message window was set to trace. Further, it could be
partly a red herring, as there are often other Xtra functions running
and/or file access when the dialogs pop up. Also, the errors could just
occur at random times when simply paging through the course.
Unfortunately, since I'm working with a large pre-existing project that
was created in an earlier version of Director, it's not something I can
easily reduce to a test movie, I'm just hoping others who have had
similar problems were able to trace it to a particular Xtra function or
incompatibility.
