I guess you've discovered that Macromedia kind of silently killed the "�" 
in 8.5. That "operand expected" is a typical error I got back when I was 
converting my scripts.

I'm guessing it's not directly related to the pdf xtra--but that's a guess. 
Is there any way you can make your pdf open string shorter by using variables?

You might double-check to make sure you have the right version of the pdf 
Xtra, too. I've known a couple people who have gotten bitten with the wrong 
version of an Xtra, especially when they convert in the middle of a project.
